The mayonnaise and sandwich debate

Mayo - sacrelidge Sir - just sacrelidge, err nope just cheese :)
I ask because some people use mayo in place of butter for the outside (*shudders*) I don't, I'm a purist, I use good ol' Kerry Gold on the outside and a touch of oil in the pan to help raise the smoke point of the butter.

Must be an American thing but I'm like you - a purist - butter on the outside and cheese (and whatever) on the inside and cook on a medium heat :)
I've never heard of anyone using mayonnaise, only butter, cheese, and bread.

Oh yeah, and if you add "whatever" inside it becomes a melt and is no longer a grilled cheese.

Correct - it then becomes a Grilled Whatever Sandwich :)
NO!!!

Add a hamburger patty and It's a patty melt. Add tuna and it's a tuna melt. Add turkey and it's a turkey melt. And so forth. And you're allowed to put mayonnaise inside...
