The motorbike thread

Morning SandwichShortOfAPicnic and I'd love to but have a wife who doesn't drive to think about .........
Park her somewhere 😂
Or maybe try this one, I did it with Mr SSOAP before he got his motorbike licence, worked pretty well-

Arrange to meet at your intended end point, somewhere that is easily reached by train or coach she’s actually interested in going to.
Then you set off a day or so earlier to allow for zigzagging and general meandering. Spend a couple of nights together in a nice hotel and then meet again back home.
You can either ride straight back or take advantage of the brownie points you just earned and take the long way home 😜

I knew I liked you for a reason - your devious! :D :D

Well, I can but only try :)

If she drove it wouldn't be so bad - I could ride and she could drive OR I could find someone who we both knew and who wanted a holiday and ...... well you get the drift :)

Little bit but I only use my powers for good 😂

Don’t feel you need to answer this if it’s too intrusive but why doesn’t she drive?

Edit - Also brownie points are extremely ethereal, they have to be cashed in pretty quick or they disappear with the very next thing you get wrong 😝

Ah huh - sure yu do ....... :D

Doesn't bother me in the least - all I know is that she has never driven and say's it is because she can't steer. I tried to sort of teach her on our lawn tractor ... that didn't work out too well, had to buy a new tractor :( :D :D

But I think the real reason is a Public Helath and Safety thing ... :) :D

Tll me about it - hell, I'm lucky if mine (when I get em) last a day :)

It’s hard to not drive and live in USA. My MIL was like that but in the UK.
My wife always lived close to her parents, in fact, her father lives next door to us - thankfully he isn't there much :)

Anyway, she always had someone to take her places, get her to work when she worked, bring her home, take her shopping etc etc but yeah, trying to live here or Oz or Europe or anywhere really without a licence now a days would make life virtually impossible I think.

In the UK you can get public transportation, in fact when we first retired we went on a 4-month trip in UK without a car, we did survive, haha.
I remember paying a taxi driver to drive us from the hotel to the train station at Windermere.
In the next few years we will do it again, no car in Europe/UK trip, it will be fun.

It sounds like it would be too. I wouldn't mind doing a train tour of Europe - sit back and relax and listen to the chuffing of the engine - they still use steam right???

But a train trip around Europe would be great I think and would be relaxing :)

The last steamed engine we were on was the Hogwart Express, I didn’t know it was cool until after I booked the trip. My kids were Harty Potter fans but we’re not.

I'm with you in so far as H Potter goes .......... we have a few Tourist Railways that run steam around us, within an hour or so drive and we tend to go on a trip once a year for the fun of it and something to do. There are also a couple of steam dinner trains we go on from time to time :)

Is that the one from Canada? When I last look at this kind of train it was very expensive for a few days.
I decided to abandon that idea and took the train to Switzerland to see the scenery there. Best yet, my googling says to book first class which was only €100 per person, but it was like a private coach, we had the whole place to ourselves for cheap, lovely experience.

The Isle of Man has a steam train and an electric train, they were both built in Victorian times.
The steam train has been in continuous use since 1873 and the electric train since 1899.
Many of the original Victorian carts are also still in use.
They have a wonderful ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ attitude.

I really love it when people engineered things to last, the Victorian’s were good at that.

It truely does sound like a step back in time and; therefore, the perfect place. You are so lucky to have places like that so accessible to you .........

There is a place here called Mackinaw Island and they have banned all and any vehicles other than an ambulance and a fire truck - everything else is horse drawn and it is so peaceful and relaxing. Everyone walks or uses their horse and buggy to travel around - virtuially no modern stuff at all other than the hotels, resteraunts etc. And everything they need, food, hardware supplies etc etc comes in by boat (ferry) and is then loaded onto "covered wagons" for delivery - it is brilliant! :)
