Vacation means fun and fun means restaurants!
Yeah, I guess a lot of my vacations I am visiting an area (or staying with) people we are related to or are our friends, so we can save a lot of money by buying food and cooking it, plus I can drink and not worry about driving. Often the food cooked with friends and family is much better than the restaurants.Fun means cooking for me (and restaurants).
Their menu is actually quite extensive, and they do breakfast as well, but I’d stick with the the famous cheese wiener.A what would you choose for this one please!!!![]()
A picture maybe? I've never been to a restaurant that only serves hotdogs and I don't think "Der Wienerschnitzel" counts...Their menu is actually quite extensive, and they do breakfast as well, but I’d stick with the the famous cheese wiener.
Me too. If I'm travelling, I just like to be able to eat what I want, when I want, at any place that takes my fancy. Last time we were in the UK, we went to several suprise places which were amazing. I always take holidays as times to do what ever takes my fancy, which is why I've never been on a cruise, or a planned holiday, and probably never will.I would hate that.
I’ll get a pic once we’re there - they serve a lot more than hot dogs.A picture maybe? I've never been to a restaurant that only serves hotdogs and I don't think "Der Wienerschnitzel" counts...
Agreed. There's enough planning when working w/out doing it while on holiday.Me too. If I'm travelling, I just like to be able to eat what I want, when I want, at any place that takes my fancy. Everyone to their own, however. My sis used to love these "all-in holidays"where they were shovelled into buses, given 2 hours to do this, eat at specified joints, etc. She'd then return home and tell us that they don't make proper chips in Dubrovnik and there are no roast lunches in Delhi.
I don’t like activities planned, but I do like having some idea of where I’m eating. Once I’m hungry, I need to eat, as in NOW!!! - I can’t tolerate driving around to this place and that place and then some other place to find a restaurant that’ll work.Agreed. Yeah, I always forget who you're married to. I don't mean that to sound rude to MrsT and I know she's got many amazing and outstanding qualities, but her endearing quirks might drive some people crazy, lol, including you at times (I know my MrOH has more than a few). So you must do what you need to do to not go hungry or insane, or both...I don’t like activities planned, but I do like having some idea of where I’m eating. For me, it’s a question of immediacy, and for MrsT, if it’s a new place she’s had no time to research in advance, she’s going to do her research then and there, and it’ll be another two hours before we eat.
Now…back to my menu surfing, so I can think of all the deliciousness just six weeks away - oh, look, I qualify for the Seniors Special…meatloaf with gravy, soup or salad, a side, a soft drink, and a cup of ice cream (MrsT can have that) for $10.99 - now I’ve got something to look forward to!![]()
That very scenario I described happened last time, or the time before, and it did take a couple of hours of first finding a place with a menu we both could accept, then driving 15-20 minutes, only to have the place rejected for one reason or another, then googling again, driving again, rejecting again, over and over.So you must do what you need to do to not go hungry or insane, or both...
The perks of a job only requiring an internet connection and a phone! My sister does that a lot too.Last of our travel plans…I have (well, had) exactly two days of vacation left, and MrsT mentioned wanting to drive the 13 hours to her hometown in August for her birthday.
Two days isn’t much to work with for a place so far away, so what we’re doing is, I’m taking one day of vacation on a Friday, and spending that day and part of Saturday driving there - it’ll actually take more like 16 hours, because on that Saturday, we’ll ditch the interstate and wind our way across the entirety of the Adirondacks…one of the most scenic drives there is, and something I always insist on.
Then…I’m going to work from there Monday and Tuesday. I have no need to run around her hometown, and the trip is mainly for her to visit her sister and check in on a few friends, so I’m fine with that, and then I’m taking my second day of vacation Wednesday and humping it back home in one long drive, then back to work Thursday.
That’s all my vacation accounted for (Pennsylvania, Plattsburgh NY, Rochester NY, Caribbean cruise).
It all sounds exhausting to me. My idea of a holiday is to go somewhere and stay there (ideally by the sea in the UK and preferably in self catering so there is more than just one room), cook with local produce and eat out at seafood restaurants or fine dining restaurants. No itinerary. Just potter about or sit on a balcony looking at the sea.Last of our travel plans…I have (well, had) exactly two days of vacation left, and MrsT mentioned wanting to drive the 13 hours to her hometown in August for her birthday.
