This is the initial "is there anything missing, how can I improve it list..."
At the moment it is UK to US, but it will be easy to make the US to UK list once we have things up and running.
I suggest you use the find command Ctrl+F if you are using Internet Explorer...

My plan is to divide this into more manageable lumps, such as pulling all veg together, all meat together, all meal types, all meals, etc. There are obvious things that can be lumped together to break down the list! I will edit this one as we go along. I will also see if I can work on the formatting. It will mean I shall have to learn some html coding I think, but there we go. I will see if I can work on a table of something similar!

Now that is a heck of a list ! I notice however that many of the names seem quite familiar now in the UK [whereas to our parents and grandparents they would have been another world] - not sure if this due to our broadening of horizons or just a sort of creeping americanization via television and films or even a sort of globalization of food.
 
Scallions and Spring Onions are a minefield! The following from the Washington Post:

The British use the term spring onion for both spring onions and scallions, and Australians call both of them shallots, although to an American that's another member of this allium family altogether."

Ha ha ha... its different in Australia too!
 
I think Turnips are Turnips in America. Turnips being the white root and Rutabaga being the orangey yellow root (Swede in UK). However, turnips and swede have the North/South confusion anyway, in the UK!

Now that is a heck of a list ! I notice however that many of the names seem quite familiar now in the UK [whereas to our parents and grandparents they would have been another world] - not sure if this due to our broadening of horizons or just a sort of creeping americanization via television and films or even a sort of globalization of food.
I noticed that too. I'd say it was both reasons. Take cupcakes for example. The craze for making cupcakes (originally fairy cakes in UK) has taken over here, partially fuelled by cake-baking mania following from 'Great British Bake Off' (TV series). I think though, that the cupcake baking with outrageous toppings trend (yuk, in my book!) began in America.(??). Almost everyone here now calls fairy cakes, cup cakes. In fact, I tested this on my grown-up children and they didn't understand 'fairy cake'.

The problem I face is that an older generation does know them as fairy cakes and therefore I have to take this into account. :o_o:
