we had Miele when we lived in Germany. DW liked it - all hard floors... short napped area rugs.

bought a Miele when we returned. w-w carpet + sheet vinyl.
it bombed. threw it away after ~2 years.

nothing 'pivots' enough to extract dog hair from around legs/etc. that's a 'wand and extension' job.
we have a shaggy coat Siberian Huskie that's choke any vacuum ever made . . .

Feel you on the Huskie... I had a Malamute and you could brush a pillowcase full everyday from that dog.
