Venezuela

I've got no idea what's going to happen, honestly. And since I can't control/influence the outcome, I refuse to worry about it. It is (or will be) what it is.

I don't think any of us do know or could possibly know.

Just keep yourself safe karadekoolaid.

If it weren't for the USA, we wouldn't have a petrol industry. They set it up in the 1920s, built all the infrastructure, helped with technology, trained all our excellent engineers (until 2000) and ensured efficient business methods. Oh, and they also bought most of it at international prices.
Currently, we give away 500,000 barrels to Cuba and Nicaragua, and the rest is cut price to the Chinese, the Iranians and the Russians. The Chinese are also destroying the Amazon jungle hunting for gold, and milking us dry of rare earth elements, thanks to government complicity.
My suggestion would be that the exploitation of Venezuela's mineral wealth will continue, just with an American accent, that seemed to be the theme of Trump's presser this afternoon.

I’m not surprised by the comments, when my daughter was in England she said the people she talked to didn’t like Trump, some of them were educated bunch from Oxford and the like. They all work for American companies too.

No idea really. At least the mineral wealth will be efficiently exploited.
I've always said to my Venezuelan buddies that, when I'm President, I'm going to invest every single penny of oil income in the country, and develop tourism. When I think of places in the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, that are making millions on tourism, and knowing we've got far greater resources than they have, it makes me rather sad. Aruba, the Maldives and Bali have more tourists than our entire country, yet we've got a magnificent island called Margarita (over 1,000 sq kms) which has glorious beaches a mile long, incredible mangrove swamps, and it's very own desert. Completely abandoned. It could be far better than Vegas and knock Cancún into the stratosphere. Again - useless governments.

There are people here who support Trump and people who don't. Maybe more don't than do but its sometimes hard to tell. The ones who support Trump generally support Farage who is a far right politician.

Regarding Venezuela, its important to look at the facts. What Trump has done might be a good thing in the long run or it may not. Most people in democratic countries understand that the Venezuelan President was not good for Venezuala. I think all of us here will probably agree about that.

I am sure we all want the best outcome for Venezuela.

Yeah, not just the UK, when I was in Switzerland they all complained about Trump too, this is back in 2016.

As my husband said in England there was no far right, they all somewhat the same flavor. I too was there before the Brexit vote.

I think that may have changed somewhat... not least due to the influence of social media. But we do have a certain polite tolerance and ability to debate politics openly without getting angry or personal, I suppose.

We're fine, although were woken at 2am by bombs!! The attacks have been clinical, specifically targeting military installations and airports. Fortunately, we're 15 kms from the centre of the city. Will keep you informed if I can , depending on internet.
Thank you all so much for your concern.
Good news. Glad all is OK.

Reporting only:

The VP of Venezuela is not playing ball with Trump. She has publically demanded the release of Maduro and his wife.

Its a fast moving narrative and a confusing one.

I think the VP is in Russia, the Russians are famous for poisoning people. It’s best to say the right thing, or you’re be dead.
