If it weren't for the USA, we wouldn't have a petrol industry. They set it up in the 1920s, built all the infrastructure, helped with technology, trained all our excellent engineers (until 2000) and ensured efficient business methods. Oh, and they also bought most of it at international prices.
Currently, we give away 500,000 barrels to Cuba and Nicaragua, and the rest is cut price to the Chinese, the Iranians and the Russians. The Chinese are also destroying the Amazon jungle hunting for gold, and milking us dry of rare earth elements, thanks to government complicity.

It is Venezuela's to give, not the US’s to forcefully take.

It is widely agreed the Ukraine was correct not to yield to Russia and that it’s absolutely appalling that Russia then invaded the Ukraine for it’s minerals and yet it’s ok for America to bomb Venezuela for the same reason?

In this scenario America is the aggressor and sadly also very much the ones who look like the actual terrorists.

Yes, he was born and raised near London. His mom was born in Hammersmith, my SIL drove us around and show us the place. Both of his parents are English.

Yes. A very difficult situation all round. I think the best we can do is watch and wait.

My thoughts are with the innocent people of Venezuela who are caught up in this unpredictable situation.

Ask any Venezuelan who has had to flee the country, and 90% of the people who are still here, and they'll all say they're very happy to see the back of a despicable dictator and his corrupt and sadistic thugs. Especially those ( and there are many) who have been tortured , imprisoned or murdered by a so -called socialist regime.

I’m sure they are, as would the people of many other countries with awful regimes.
It’s quite simply not a criteria for bombing or bullying another country and it’s certainly not behind the motivation for the current US moves.

This is a topic of widespread interest over which there appears to be general concensus, and of course we have some concern for one of our friends. I guess if it developed into an arguement about the right of Trump to take the action from international or domestic political and legal viewpoints then it would be time to shut it down.
I believe similar threads about Ukraine and Gaza existed and they slipped down the listings once their state of horrible stability was reached and we all understood the basic situation. There was no general appetite to take political positions and thrash them out.

KK has asked that this be closed down before it goes too far. We all accept that neither Russia nor America is acting in anyone's interests other than its own. That is as political as it is going to get.
