Weather and other bits

Update: snow totals in my city have officially hit 43cm, and it’s still snowing!

I went outside to make sure the air intake for the furnace was clear of snow (it was), and the snow was up to mid-thigh on me (I’m 5’4”).

Pretty sure I won’t have to go in to the office tomorrow, at least!

About a foot of snow for us, yesterday. All of us neighbors spent most of the day outside shoveling each other out. Mrs. GH and I were the early birds and tackled our elderly neighbor's HUGE driveway ourselves. Just as we were wrapping up with shovels, he opened the garage door and told us we should have used the new snowblower he'd just bought! 😱 We chalked it up to senility that he didn't mention "new snowblower" when we promised to shovel his driveway the night before. Afterwards, I think the whole neighborhood ended up at our place for food and a few too many beverages.

australia is resetting all its records again...

Live: NSW towns bake in 'breathtaking' heat with 49.8C recorded in some places.

It was already above 28 °C at my house this morning at 8 am. I have been out again, 5 hours later and it is 38.1C outside and restocked all the water and ice for the wildlife, but I won't go out again until after sundown. I spent an hour preparing the garden this morning (6:45-7:45am) just so they chooks would be OK.
tomorrow is due to be 10C cooler but I won't believe that until it happens. We were meant to be 10C this morning and the lowest we dropped to was 18C overnight. So I have had 10 minutes out in the sun, and I won't go back out again today unless I need to save chooks or wildlife or respond to an emergency.
