our host mentioned it as being 'standard Dutch pizza' (Utretch area)

Indeed not clear at all.... but to be honest I don't know if the writer simply means pizza made in the Netherlands rather Dutch pizza being a thing.

They probably weren't fluent in English enough to really express themselves well.it was my native Dutch host declaring the dish as presented for consumption "is a typical Dutch pizza"
whatever they meant.
