What did you cook or eat today (April 2026)?

Caesar salad tonight with smoked, reverse seared NY strips and homemade dressing... extra heavy on the anchovies and garlic, as I like it.

Cookout or cook in?
We went from beautiful weather to cold windy squally. No like wind.
In. BBQ grill is currently on its side with all parts shading the seedling sprouts. It's brutally bright already for the squash. My fav chili plants, the Buena Mulatas, even wilt a bit.

Looking forward to:

My business partner was at the Caracas central market today.
"I've found tomatoes!! " (Currently, due to the dry season, very poor and very expensive)
" Are they red, ripe, you know, quality?"
"YES! Yes, I'm gonna buy 10 kgs"
He did. They were barely red, very small, and crappy. They were falling apart when I got them (lost 2.5 kgs) so I had to make a load of tomato chutney. Not a particularly happy camper, but at least we've got some tomato chutney now!

Well that took rather a lot of finding. My phone is full of photographs of my recycling lit up by sunlight and so on...

Tonight was a freezer dive. There were more miniature (purple) jacket spuds, but they never made it to the plate.

Here they're ripe, large (12 oz. or so), and hovering around $1.97/lb, and flavorless. I'll wait till I can harvest mine...

I had some "free" sirloin steaks from Omaha Steaks. For those not in the US, it's an online food distributor that specializes in quality meats mostly (plus some side items and desserts that I never order) delivered on dry ice. I do believe in larger cities they have brick and mortar stores. Anyway, on their website they advertised that their sirloin steaks were so tender that one couldn't tell the difference from a grocery store filet mignon, money back guarantee. I was ordering some other meat so even though I was skeptical, I ordered 4 small sirloin steaks too. We had tried 2 of them last week. They were ok, but we definitely could tell they weren't filet mignon. I let them know and they refunded my credit card for the sirloins. We had 2 left so last night I made steak sandwiches with them. After searing them, I thinly sliced them for the sandwiches and made a cheddar cheese sauce. We had asparagus for a side. It was good!

No pictures, perhaps on another day. Breakfast was avocado cheese omelettes and dinner was picadillo. Picadillo is basically rice with ground meat and whatever other ingredients that suit your fancy. Today I added onion, red bell pepper, wine, worcestershire sauce garlic and salt.

Supper last night
Grilled Rib Eye & Asparagus with a Baked Russet Potato (mine has tons of salted butter and some dried Chives - DH has tomato ketchup & bacon bits)
I love butter, sour cream, and chives on any potatoes other than fries.

I like to use these. Keep the cup in the freezer. They last a long time. I never had any go bad.
