What did you cook or eat today: August 2025?

Now you've got me wanting andouille. Louisiana style andouille, not that French stuff.
That's andouillette. I'll never forget after Craig's mistake and his reaction after, necessitating a call from France to home to moan and groan about it.

We've found some regular grocery available andouille that's not bad. It's a bit greasier than what we make at home, but not swimming in grease like some. Let me look in freezer cause I think we have some.

I finally got to grill this

The gas grill at our hotel worked, kinda sorta, tonight, granted, I had to let it heat up for 30-40 just to get to 450*
but, eh, we got there in the end

Not to toot my own horn, but I cooked those Chicken Breast tenders perfectly!

While Mrs KKA was away, I managed to keep the fridge nice and tidy, and only ate what was in there, until it was all used up.
Now, it's total chaos again :hyper: :hyper:
When she "fancies" something, she'll go off to the supermarket and buy enough for 10 portions. When I opened the fridge door this morning, the contents screamed 'HELP!! LET ME OUT!! ":laugh::laugh:
Tuesday last was "I fancy some watercress" and, even though she knew I was doing watercress for a client, she bought a huge bunch. Today, the watercress was still there, so I made a watercress Caesar salad, with home made croutons. I also used some of the 3 tonnes of Beluga lentils, along with a couple of spicy xistorras (Basque sausages) and a bit of bacon, so that's food for another day . The kilo of minced meat she bought on Monday is (partially) going to be used, with an aubergine and a half, to make a moussaka for tomorrow. Since I've still got a few courgettes/zucchini left, I splashed out on some bocconcini and with make a marinated bocc & grilled courgette salad as well.

Not from today but I continued to take the odd snap for the forum while I was absent.
This was something I had in Spain and instantly loved it. It’s the sort of thing if you like prawn cocktail you’ll love this (IMO it’s better).
Ensaladilla de Marisco

Took a while to get it right because there are a few variations and it’s a bit of a ‘make it how you like it’ dish.
The surprising key to it seems to be to shred chopped ‘seafood sticks’ (formally known as crabsticks) using a hand mixer and to use fish sauce as the main salt component. In Spain they top it with grated egg, so out came the cured duck yolks and that worked a treat.

I’ll try and get it written up at some point because I think it delivers way beyond it’s weight for fish lovers 👍

Oh and I took this one for the forum on friday. I decided to treat myself to a bit of a fine lunch after reading a slightly harsh review by a food critic of the place around the corner from where my mum lived.
I felt she thought the food was good but marked them down far too much on the decor.

It was worth every penny. It was all beautifully executed.
But as it is with posh food places they often put ‘compliments of the chef’ bits in front of you before your order arrives. Most were and absolute delight.

But this abomination made me want to cry.
I was far too polite to send back the proudly presented “freshly picked from the new restaurant garden” which meant I had to eat PEA’S!!!! 😭 😂🤣😂🤣

Not bad, for peas! 🫛
