What did you cook or eat today: August 2025?

Oh and I took this one for the forum on friday. I decided to treat myself to a bit of a fine lunch after reading a slightly harsh review by a food critic of the place around the corner from where my mum lived.
I felt she thought the food was good but marked them down far too much on the decor.

It was worth every penny. It was all beautifully executed.
But as it is with posh food places they often put ‘compliments of the chef’ bits in front of you before your order arrives. Most were and absolute delight.

But this abomination made me want to cry.
I was far too polite to send back the proudly presented “freshly picked from the new restaurant garden” which meant I had to eat PEA’S!!!! 😭 😂🤣😂🤣

Not bad, for peas! 🫛

I guess if you don't like peas that would be a bit of a torture but what's it supposed to be? Is that pea soup underneath (pea soup is a favourite round here).

Lunch, the usual

Then I cooked...

Leek and mushroom gratin

Served with broccoli, carrots and a few tomatoes.

And for later in the week, when I'm too busy to be able to cook,

A butter masala sauce for tofu and veg. 2 × 4 portions, so some may not make it out of the freezer this week.

You need to leave them a glowing 5-star review, using flowery language to describe all the exquisite dishes…then point out the pea bowl had a little smear of pea goop along the top-right part of the bowl, then give them 1.5 stars…and say the half-star was for the lovely decor. 😉

It was a chilled set mange tout flavoured base with super fresh peas on top. Tbh it wasn’t bad, but also not good 😬

The smear of goop was my spoon going in and tasting it before I realised the forum might enjoy a photo of my pain 😂
But yer the decor comment would be the tops.
They gave be some home grown/made salt for the main which I didn’t use til right at the end because I thought for a change it was perfectly seasoned. It was a delight. I told them so and within moments a pot of salt was placed on front of me to take home. How nice!

Moi: DH!!! Did you take a bite out of this cake and then put it back?
DH: (while inspecting said package) HMMM, it's still sealed
Moi: WHAT?! Oh throw that away! Plus it's packaged backwards, oh no, no, no!
