What did you cook or eat today: August 2025?

Bagels cream cheese and beetroot sea bass gravlax bagels for snacks.
Finished marking the rillette’s, a large portion of which disappeared into Mr SSOAP and the eldest’s belly before I could get them in the freezer. Then a bit snacking with chicken crackling.
Later on some pizza.
The dough didn’t suffer from being put in the fridge but it needed to warm up to completely finish proving 👍

Bowl of chili (con carne) and a beer.

I’ve been having Big Fun today. Ohio State is playing today ((American) football), and OSU football is more important than family and god here.

Of course, I give not a shit for it.

At Kroger today, the woman ringing me out said, “So…you decided to skip the big game today, huh?”

I replied, “I don’t even know what game you’re referring to!”

Then, I went to my usual beer-and-a-snack stop here in beautiful Washington Court House, Ohio, and of course it’s packed. One seat left at the second bar.

Sat down, and the woman pulling pints commented that I’d lucked out with the best seat in the house, smack-dab in front of one of the big TV’s, where the game was playing, larger than life.

“Actually…would you mind changing the channel? I think there’s a show about butterflies on the PBS channel.”

I’m lucky to still be alive.

Made nice thick burgers on my pellet grill. Turned out pretty good. Low and slow at 225 F. A little over 2 hours. Next time I’ll temp them at 90 minutes. Tossed some thick cut bacon slices on. Loved it. Like eating a cloud of delicious smoke. I as going to make crawfish bread but that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Sliced cucumber and sliced tomato with Italian dressing.
Feeling you on these sliced cucumbers and tomatoes what with the garden cranking them out. I've got several gallons of tomatoes put up, 2 gallons of pickles, about a gallon of cucumber chutney and at 2 pints of tomato something in the fridge. I don't buy store tomatoes and I think this year will be a first winter where I can eat tomatoes. 🥳

Had a big brunch at Cracker Barrel. Probably will just have a snack in a bit.
Have not been to a Cracker Barrel in years. Last time we went my pancakes looked good. However they were burnt on the bottom side. My wife’s bacon was cooked on one end and almost raw on the other The waitress asked if everything was good. I showed her my pancakes and my wife’s bacon and she said “that does look very good” she never came back. And neither did we. We don’t eat breakfast out unless we are traveling. Next weekend we are camping. There is a gas station with a little restaurant in it. They have a little bit of everything and you can mix and match items. It’s served buffet style. You tell them what you want and they plate it for you. That is the best breakfast in that town. A friend of mine camps there quite often this time of year. His wife told him don’t forget the griddle for breakfast. He told her to leave it at home. They were going to the gas station for all their breakfasts.
