What did you cook or eat today? (December 2025)

Wife was making hallacas today (for the uninitiated, they're a classic Venezuelan Christmas dish; a bit like a tamale, but far more complex).
When wife is in the kitchen cooking, I clear out.
I had a sandwich about 11.30am, but now, I'm just going to wait for tomorrow and have a big breakfast.

Salad again.

But to answer your question, we ate smoked brisket and smoked turkey at my cousin's house and I cooked a bit at my brother's house (steak and lobster with prosciutto wrapped asparagus and deconstructed sushi bowls with salmon another night) and takeout pizza and wings. At my daughter's house in Austin we had smoked turkey and fixings for Thanksgiving. At my sister's we went to a steakhouse called Saltgrass that was very good.

We go home tomorrow to the bitter cold!
Safe travels.

Drive safe and stay warm!

I roasted lamb shoulder today, it was delicious.

It looks better here than on my plate, today I was eaten like a caveman, big bone from the roasted lamb.

Here is my husband’s plate, I put the garbanzos on top because I don’t like to mix them in my red cabbage and onion slices, they don't store as well. My husband was too hungry when I removed the lamb from the oven, he was starting to eat potato chips, so I hurried and made the mint sauce, didn’t do the gravy. In fact I could have chopped the mint a bit finer but they were too hungry.

More steak and kidney pudding for lunch with some swede and carrot mash (top with plenty of butter and salt) 😋

Then just now a gluten free sausage roll from Marks’ which even Pommery wholegrain mustard couldn’t save from it’s lardy mouthfeel 🙁
I’m sure they’re fine when heated and the lards hot again but I strongly advise anyone against eating them cold.. which is what I’ll be doing on the plane tomoz because that’s what I bought to take with me for breakfast 😩 😂

Know about hallacas, have never had, might have to. Tamales are the classic Mex/NewMex Xmas dish. And any other day of the year 😁
