• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

What did you cook or eat today? (January 2026)

SoCalZone10 where did you folks have Dim Sum?
I LOVE downtown Honolulu, DH refuses to go there. so I go by myself and get take-out.
(and did I say I'm very envious of you right about now... haven't had any good Dim Sum in awhile now... the take-out place I frequented downtown when I was working closed during Covid, damn it all!)

MrsT, girl, you are rockin' the food world!!!
I’ll pass that along. She reminded me today how much she utterly and completely hates cooking.

She’s deemed me well enough to handle any knife work, but she’s the one who’s been coming up with what to make. She’s was supposed to make a chicken-and-bean soup, but noticed the tube of crescent dough leftover from New Year’s, did a little googling, and picked the recipe. All I had to do was chop chop chop.

Made a new bit of sambal!

I believe it’s Hawaiin Dim Sum and Sea food restaurant. I took bus #2, using my Medicare card, I paid $1.25 one way, such a steel. I get to ride around Honolulu.
It’s pretty inexpensive comparing to where I am in California, the cheaper place in California has problem with parking space, so I don't go.

Never tried it before (let alone cook it from scratch) so last night I had some meatloaf for my tea! Hope I did this classic American cuisine justice.

This is the recipe I followed on my blog here: TSC Meatloaf Recipe
Looks delicious.

One thing you might consider if you make it again is some diced green bell pepper - that sharpness is considered part of the signature taste of meatloaf here.

That said…MrsT doesn’t like green bell pepper at all, so I always sub in red bell pepper. Not the same, but it’s still good.

Do you mean dice some up and add it to the meatloaf itself or serve on the side as a veg?

The colors, green or red, add a nice visual pop as well.
