What did you cook or eat today? (January 2026)

Ramen noodles with king oyster mushrooms and leftover everything in the soup. This way when I go to Hawaii i wont have to pay an arm and a leg for a bowl ramen noodles.

For dessert, I had this Dragon fruit, when I first encountered this fruit was at Harrods department store, I remember it was £32 for a pound, after that If I can get the fruit cheaper elsewhere, I buy and eat them.

They usually had those at the Thai grocery store in Las Vegas for around $5 each.

Dragon fruit are absolutely divine, when they're perfectly ripe. When they're not, they can be bland and uninteresting.
There's a S American version called pitahaya - a cactus fruit, but grey inside, not purple. Again, phenomenal when ripe.

The white or grey inside variety is not very tasty, they are cheaper too. I like the deep purple inside.

I can get prickly pear cactus fruits here but they're not nearly as fresh as the ones in Nevada, or fresh picked off the open desert! They're sometimes called Indian Figs.

I like them too when I can purchase them cheap, but they have a lot of seeds right?

Red beans and rice. Never made this before. It was a lot of work, about 7 hours went into this. It's amazing, delicious, spicy, savory, filling and totally worth it. Thanks for the recipe medtran49

No ham - I’m coming out of restrictions pretty soon, I just have to ease into the fattier/heavier stuff.

I marinated 6 mid loin lamb chops for the wife in my tandoori paste. She loves them that much I dont eat any myself. Served with sautéed cabbage.
I cooked some shooms and had on toast.
We were both happy.with what we had
Just taken some mince out of freeze for burgers Tomorrow night
