What did you cook or eat today? (January 2026)

I used the carcass and trimmings that I saved from the other day, plus some veggies that were going soft to make 6 pints of chicken stock this morning. Nothing went to waste on this bird. I even picked the meat off of the boiled carcass and gave it the dogs. At just $1 / pound, I stretched this bird crazy far, lol.

Hey you might as well eat the bones, some anyway. Give me an idea, maybe I’ll boil my bones twice in a crockpot and use the broth as fertilizer, why pay for bone meal and blood meal.
I’m a big believer in recycling and recycling.

Turkey salad; it's a bit of a mess tbh lol, but I'm getting better at at least making salads taste OK.

Hey you might as well eat the bones, some anyway. Give me an idea, maybe I’ll boil my bones twice in a crockpot and use the broth as fertilizer, why pay for bone meal and blood meal.
I’m a big believer in recycling and recycling.

I don't have the teeth to eat bones but the dog does and I keep the bone broth for stock. Proteins, like in bone broth, aren't good for fertilizer. You can read up on fertilizers here.

That looks good. I threw my bones in my garden, but they take forever to break down, this is why cook them one more time would help.
I already spend money to buy bone meal and blood meal.

Thank you, I go with 10 oz. of bones and in the end make sure it's 1 qt. of water.

It takes the calcium in egg shells around 100 years to get in the soil so I'd imagine bone calcium is about the same.

Yeah, I also have egg shells. At least they serve as mulch. I cut my credit cards and used them as mulch in my garden.
