What did you cook or eat today? (October 2025)

Yes, catfish and hush puppies is a thing around here. Fish fries are a big deal too. We've lots of rivers, lakes, coastline so fish is plentiful. I'm fixing them broiled white fish tomorrow, enough frying already! 🫟
Do you live near Alton Brown? I thought I remember reading he lives in Rome.

Halibut with a tapenade I made with Sicilian olives, caper berries, fresh parsley. I threw on some teeny weeny garlic cloves from the garden.

When Covid hit, the town grocer had a literal wall of TP as soon as you entered the store. It was well over my head, maybe 12ft high and the length of the shopping cart area, maybe 50ft.
It took them several years for that wall of toilet paper to whittle down
Obviously we did not experience the shortage some predicted.
You're lucky. I managed to snag some online at Wal-Mart by staying up really late and refreshing every few minutes. When we went to pick up, I went in while Craig drove around. On coming out, I was really worried given the looks I was getting since it was a giant sized package. We were going to grocery shop after, but decided to go home and drop the TP off since even Craig noticed and we were driving my car that was an SUV with no trunk.

My plate, Red Wine Braised Short Ribs, Roasted Butternut Squash, Garlic Smashed Potatoes and Creamed Corn - that's Diane Sauce atop the Short Rib meat, that was pulled off the bone --- probably just fell off, it was that tender!

And the birthday girl's lunch: Steelhead Trout, Garlic Smashed Potatoes and Roasted Beets & Carrot.
Everything was wonderful!
We had been to this restaurant just once before.
The service was great and the food even better.
We all decided that we needed to come back here again.

Crudites?
I live 90 minutes from Buffalo and I can pretty much guarantee they don't call cut celery crudites
Until I googled crudites, I had it confused with morlocks

Anyhoo...
Chicken fried steak, mashed redskins, and shaved B sprouts with shallots, garlic and parm.
