Well that wasn't hard to Google.

You might know them as cockles.
But according to what I read, a cockle is specific to UK waters. So I guess a minced cockle would not be the exact same thing.

Cockles, here are tiny where I buy them. I toss them in the pot with oil, fresh garlic, clam juice, and fresh parsley. Clap a cover on, over low heat, wait for them to open. Then pour the whole pot over cooked linguine.
