What New To You Ingredients Did You Recently Obtain?

We'll be making a trip to ours soon to pick up curry paste ingredients.
Chili pastes, oils, 5 spice powder, dried fugus, etc...things I can bring home and keep in the larder..they have a dim sum counter and I usually grab too much food..

Ordered some asafoetida from Amazon since several people on here use it and I've seen it called for in several recipes I've been thinking about making.

We can definitely say that asafoetida lives up to its odiferous reputation! When I stuck the bottle under his nose and said "here, smell this," Craig's response was OMG, what the F... is that?
:giggle:

GF says it smells like BO...I like it. I have a few rocks of it in a little tin. It is very gaed and difficult to grind into powder

Have you ever used black salts. Very pungent. Like boiled eggs or sulphur smell.but, if used right it can really enhance. makes your mouth water similar to MSG

It tastes fantastic though. I actually like the smell but I know others don't.

It's not for everybody..it is pretty strong and smelly...but I have a few uses for it..Actually I first heard of it in Rick Stein's India cook book...

Here are some more..I'll post more later..13 spice powder..everything else is labelled on the container

Rocklobster , if that is the same red curry paste that Craig bought once and it kind of looks like it might be from memory, be sparing with it. It was so hot even he couldn't eat it.

Thanks for the warning...I've had a few before, but never this one...looking forward to giving it a go..
