And I raided the alcohol shop in search of some nice beer.
The company that imported our favourite Orkney Isles Dark Ale has folded, so us and many others are now looking for alternatives.

We know the Chimay, so that's always a nice one to get. Sadly we can only get the blue label one.

Hopefully there will be something up there we/I like!

We took a road trip today to buy everyone new winter coats. There's a Wegman's out that way where my wife dropped me off afterwards, while she and my son went to Marshall's and TJ Maxx. I may sound like a dork, but I was giddy. Our local grocery stores are... let's say, "unsophisticated". If you're looking for creme fraiche or pancetta or finer cuts of meat, forget about it. If you ask the meat counter if they have guanciale, they'll look at you like you have spiders coming out of your eyes. Wegman's is a step up with a much better selection of meats and cheeses and all things, really, but it's a bit of a drive, so I I don't get there often.

Usually, the section of kitchen utensils in grocery stores is full of junk, but Wegman's actually had a bunch of nice things. I bought a few stainless utensils for $11.99 each, which are on par with some Williams Sonoma stuff I own that cost 2x or 3x more. I also picked up a couple of oil bottles, a great microplane, and a bottle of tellicherry peppercorns that the local stores don't seem to understand exist.

Some of their fresh meat and fish selection: Some of these things are premium items, so their prices are KA-CHING!

Gone Hiking so very envious !!!!
I went into a Wegman's once and DH had to drag me, as we were on a road trip, somewhere else. WHY?!
Just leave me here, I'm good...
As much as I wanted to buy some fresh meat or fish, I already have fresh stuff in the fridge that I need to use. Maybe some day I'll buy a little cube of that insanely priced, Japanese A5 Wagyu steak just to see what all the fuss is about. I also know where I can go if I decide to serve a $100 tiny jar of caviar or similar foie gras. Maybe over Christmas I'll treat everyone. We'll see.
