What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

One day I wish I could taste the real sushi in Japan

Do it! You only live once and it's amazing. :)

Oh yes me too, very much!

You should go!

My sis is in Osaka right now with her family and today's the last day of their trip. I asked her if she'd eaten any good sushi because her husband doesn't like fish and she said 'no'. I said 'you're mad - go out yourself and get some!'.

Mr SSOAP really wants to go to but the thing that bothers me is going to Japan, seeing all the beautiful food I’d like to eat and not being able to because of the bl**dy gluten free thing. Theres a heavy use of sauces and pastes (miso etc) that contain wheat and a low awareness of coeliac disease.

It’s not regarded as wise choice of destination for coeliacs. Modifications aren’t welcome and communication is serious barrier so ultimately as a coeliac I wouldn’t enjoy getting into the sweet shop and not be able to have any sweets!
It is on my fantasy ‘They cured coeliac disease’ list though 😂

Ah. That is a bummer and I can see how that would make traveling anywhere slightly troublesome. :(

It does a bit. Most of the time in the majority of places you can work around it and it doesn’t matter that you can’t have this or that but Japan and all that lovely food it would be a killer 😂
When I was in Nepal and Tibet I mostly ate plain rice for a month because they don’t understand Coeliac disease.
Well it wasn’t totally plain because I carried my own little tubes of soy sauce, paprika, Tobasco and sesame oil but you get the idea.
