What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

More shopping done
Yoghurt, salami, chorizo, kabanosy, pork sausages, pork rashers (belly pork) bacon, gherkins, beer, bit more wine, bread
And a couple small bags of peanuts, except that they are pumpkin seeds....

And 4 x 580 watt solar panels, borehole pump, cotroller and poly pipe
And 2 new shoes for my car
(They both fit here: the car acts as shopping trolley and water is necessary for coking and loads of other things)

A borehole pump?
Not an everyday type of shopping list. What’s going on with that?

We have one as well. They're backups for your usual water supply.

Drill a very deep hole into the ground. Our current one is 50 meters deep. It's only about 50-75cm wide though. The pump needs to be a special pump to draw water up from well below the surface. In fact, maybe that word "well" used in it's other form is the best description? A very deep, narrow well that goes though rock as well as soil, and using a pump, not a bucket, to pull up the water that collects in the hole.

At our last place, the pump was electric and the water was hard, ground water used only for the garden or toilet and washing machine.

Here the new bore hole went in last summer. It's solar powered and is there as a backup primarily for the garden, but can if needed act as drinking water in an emergency. Typically though it's not considered drinking water in Australia.

Wish me luck.
I'm tired of the stores always being out of basil.
But they had decent looking plants today.
I picked up a couple pots for them last week.

I need to be more disciplined about harvesting mine in the summer and I won't run out. I'm surprised, given the time of year, that you can find live plants!

Walmart had them just off the produce section.
Just basil.
They probably come from a greenhouse in a warmer climate. I didn't read the bag.
