What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2026)?

I'm in town, so that means stocking up.
I'll be here for a week as I'm dog (and house) sitting.
Gotta make sure I don't spend too much money.
A bit over 50 dollar worth at the butcher
Almost 1 kg salami, 850 gr westphalen ham, weisswurst, bacon, gypsy ham (made from pork neck), and a couple of pork chops
At the veg & food market
Daikon & carrots (for pickles), slender eggplant, cashew nuts (roasted and unroasted), dry beans (white, brown and maybe kidney)
At the booze section
Red wine and a couple cans of amber ale
At the bakery
2 baquettes & German landbrot

We went to Costco today with list in hand.
When we got to the liquor section, DH picks up TWO 1.75ml bottles of Vodka!!
"I noticed that you and your Gal Pals need more of this, let's get two."
😆
I felt like one of those little old ladies with nothing more in her cart than ginormous bottles of hooch!

As we exited Costco, ya know how they have "checkers" look over your cart and then your receipt?
The gal says to me, "I know where I'm going tonight... YOUR HOUSE!"
"Come on over honey", I said, "I'll make you a Lemon Drop Martini or three, along with my neighborhood gal pals!"
"I like you, your fun!" she says.

My Gal Pal dropped me a text, "I left you a surprise on your little table by the front door".

OH_MY_GAWD!!!!
Girl, that's expensive s#!+ ---- is this another "gift" from your mom Liz?
(Her mom and my mom are/were pals as well, lived in the same senior community, as we do out in Cowboyville Arizona. Her mom passed on NYE and she has been giving things that she's found in her mom's apartment --- she was a hoarder.)
She said no, that she found this in the Christmas clearance stuff at Costco.
She said that she bought one for herself, her daughter and me
🥹
Aaawwwww, she's so sweet, really.
She said it was not expensive at all, $10, that's all!
WOW!
She asked me what I would make with it and I said that I'm not sure... she said that she has always wanted to make Vanilla Extract from scratch
💡
I have two more of those swing top bottles leftover from my homemade Limoncello project...

I took them over to her...

I need to look at vanilla beans next time. I love vanilla beans, good for making Pana Cotta.

My haul from my garden yesterday, Gold Nugget mandarins, Crunchy seedless guavas, Oro Blanco grapefruit, and my very first atemoya.

I bought tomatoes, second grade ones.
10 kg for about 2.50 dollar. I couldn't resist :)
I also bought bananas, avocado, sharon fruit (I want the pips) and a bunch of coriander.
And worms. They are composting worms. Hopefully that goes ok and I'll soon have worm tea & compost

I've purchased 10 kg of tomatoes before but they were closer to $15!
