Whatcha drinking (2023)?

Saturday evening so a nice. G&T. Larios gin brought back from Spain and Fever Tree tonic, a tonic that brought gin back from the dead, meaning that 77% of brits now consider it a primary drink.
1 in 16 brits drink gin everyday šŸ˜®

Schweppes and their nasty artificially sweetened tonic really did damage gin drinking, it produced a foul tasting drink.

So glad its now back as one of out most popular drinks šŸ‘

I ordered a few vodka tonics in the UK. I just never got a taste for gin. I think it is the juniper berry thing that makes it unpalatable to me.

Juniper is the only required ingredient in gin. All the other botanicals are optional.

The history of British drinking ā€˜dutch courageā€™ is quite interesting. Itā€™s always had a strong hold in the UK

ā€œBy 1740, the city of 630,000 debauched souls was producing 45 million litres of gin each year ā€” that's 71 litres per person, or four double gins per day. It's estimated there were some 17,000 gin shops in London alone, a figure that excludes pubs, taverns, restaurants, grocers, barbers or brothels... all of which also did a roaring gin trade.ā€

What is considered a good tequila down there, and what does it cost. I know I got a good laugh the last time I was in a bar in London and saw their "top shelf" tequila. To be fair, most Americans don't know what good tequila is, either.

Hint: If you need salt and a lime wedge to get down a tequila shot, you are drinking bad tequila.

There are two levels of tequila, IMO. There is the stuff you use to make margaritas, which can be cheap because the limeade and triple-sec cover that nasty taste of the cheap tequila. The leader for that is Cuervo. It gets the job done.

Now, for tequila shots, something like Cuervo will require licking some salt first, then downing the shot, and chasing it with a lime wedge while making a face that looks like you just got kicked in the... um, I think you know what I mean.

But, if you have class, and some extra bucks in your wallet, you go for a Patron, one of my favorites, or another favorite of mine, Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo. No salt or lime needed. In fact, you don't need to drink it as a shot. You can slowly sip and enjoy a good tequila.

The good stuff will cost quite a bit more than Cuervo, but believe me, it is WAY better.

When people come to town, and I suggest tequila shots, I look at their faces. If they cringe, I tell them, "Trust me." One shot of good tequila and they always say, "Wow, that actually tasted good!"

That sounds pretty high, but, you are on the other side of the world. What size bottle is that? A 750ML bottle of Patron is $40.99 near me.
