Whatcha drinking (2025)?

I can do Vodka but Gin is non-negotiable for me - tastes like a pine tree me, maybe too herbaceous?
I suppose we Brits were brought up on gin & tonic. However, I've maybe had one, or two, in the past 45 years. Not because of the flavour:
1) I was invited to a "Venezuelan" party back in 78. The girls said we'd be eating "arepas" so I thought that'd be good. They plonked a bottle of gin in front of us; it was about 6pm. The arepas appeared at 12.30am, by which time we were all kissed as poots.
2) Now in Venezuela, my (new) wife and I went to an Italian restaurant and I ordered a G&T. The gin had been adulterated. I couldn't even finish the glass before I was totally out of my mind. No dinner, wife drove home.
Fast forward to about 4 weeks ago and I had a gin & tonic made by a local producer. Unbelievably good.

I think the tonic is the make or break for most people.
Fever tree are single handedly responsible for its resurgence.

I’m generally not a fan of Warsteiner beers, but this one is pretty good.

It confirmed I really, really dislike peaty whisky. I persevered but didn’t finish the glass. It smells carcinogenic!
Many years ago (1995, now that I think of it), I bought an expensive bottle of scotch for my FIL. I didn’t (and still don’t) know the first thing about scotch. I judged its worthiness based on the price, which was quite dear.

A year or so later, when they next visited our house, I presented it to him, and being the generous, convivial fellow he was, he insisted we drink it together.

The four of us each had a taste, and both MIL & MrsT deemed it undrinkable, due to the peatiness - I still remember MrsT’s comment: “It tastes like I just drank a wet campfire!”

My FIL…he powered through one drink, then said he was awfully full…or tired…or not feeling well, and wouldn’t have any more.

I, OTOH, absolutely loved it and drank the rest of it myself!
