Fluid measure is confusing in all aspects.
We have metric - litres, centilitres, millilitres/CCs etc.
Then we have imperial - fluid ounces, gills, pints, quarts etc to name but a few.
I now generally stick with fluid measure in cubic centimetres of which there are a thousand in a litre. (Also known as millilitres)
Makes it easier to judge how much I've consumed from a 750ml wine bottle.

It's the same with barrels (of oil) - 1 US barrel -= 1.0294 UK barrel. Only a 3% difference but a bloody problem if you're working with thousands of them.
