It’s been on MrsT’s list for most of her life, and we’ve made a few attempts in the past (Alaska, for one), but never had any luck.

Now, for whatever reason, they’ve shown up in Ohio a few times now, so she’s seen them, right? Bucket list item satisfied, right?

Nope. She said last night, while enjoying her photos, “I still want to see them in Norway. Or Iceland.”

So that’s that! :laugh:
 
Some better images - and I also have not seen the northern lights - only the Aurora Australis, which displays differently from the Northern Lights. It is meant to be harder to see them as well.

Very nice. Some of those pics have shooting stars in them. Cool!
 
I think it’s strange that I can’t see them where I live in New Jersey (back in 2024 others saw them but I was out that night and didn’t see a thing).
But they are visible in Australia. :scratchhead:
 
Had a day out hiking/walking dodging tourists and thunderstorms alike.

The plants to the right are grass trees which are incredibly resilient trees but take hundreds of years to grow. Those there will be 25-50 years of already. They are on the right, looking like spiky grasses really, but are not is enough yet to have a trunk. They demonstrate a stable and undisturbed ecosystem. It's also very typical of Australian views - through the trees and vegetation unless you're at a look out which typically is a viewing platform suspended over the canopy and not for those afraid of heights or of seeing the drop below their feet.

For those with lots of money and prepared to wait inline a long time.
 
The area was full of grass trees.

I also came across a couple of orchids.
The blue one is a Swamp Sun Orchid.

These 2 white orchids were barely 4 inches, 10cm high and were being battered by the wind making it hard to get a photograph. That and their location made decent photos impossible. Had I have known how rare it is, I would have said sod that to the world, held everyone up and got my big camera out.

They're an Australian Gnome Orchid (Adenochilus nortonii) and there are only 25 specimens on iNaturalist. 2 of them are my photos. Australian Gnome Orchid (Adenochilus nortonii)
