Usually this pilgrimage attracts 100,000 people from Croatia and all over the world. Thankfully the government stepped in.
People who will still visit Sinj for this holiday should definitely be given some more restrictions.
- If people want to see and be near the image of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, they should certainly be prevented from kissing the image or touching it with their hands. They should be allowed to walk past the picture, bow to it, and continue on without touching or kissing. Everything must be thought about, because even the slightest omission can lead to unwanted consequences - says Dr. Karin.
We should not forget the fact that many residents of Split, Solin and other surrounding towns and cities will go on foot to Sinj Our Lady of Sinj.
- I have received information that many have already walked to Sinj, in order to avoid large crowds on the day of the holiday, precisely for epidemiological reasons. It would be good for people to visit Sinj in the remaining 20 days until the holidays. One should understand all those people who want to go and pay homage to the image of Our Lady of Sinj. People have their feelings, vows and want to go to Our Lady of Sinj, but this should be organized in such a way that not everyone visits Sinj in the last 24 hours before the holidays.
I was amazed that the government which usually sucks up to the Vatican enforced it's restriction. A priest in a parish near us at the start of the epidemic held an illegal mass and told the congregation not to wear masks as the devil could enter in disguise. The police shut it down and warned him and his congregation. He came out and confronted the police. A few people recorded the event on their phones. He swore and issue threats of damnation etc. The police charged him with a breach of the peace.
