How is the corona virus affecting you?

Wife is an RN and says the next thing to hit the news may be false negative tests. Drive thru and quick tests centers aren't doing the test properly.
The infectious disease research section at her hospital says the virus started from bats sold at the wet markets for consumption.

My husband and I keep being ok-ish. One day flu symptoms, one day not. Yesterday I felt bad, now I am ok. Yesterday husband was ok, now he's feeling bad. But we both havent had a fever yet, so it seems to be either mild corona symptoms ( because its lasting so long) or a really irritating cold.

We found out that if we pay premium price, we can still order groceries to our home each week despite regular ordering being booked to capacity. So much for not being poor I guess. We do it because we can't leave the house, but this is really unfair for the poor who are left with bare shelves. I'm actively calling for government restrictions on hoarding. If needed me and my husband shall use it to package food for our poorer friends.

Well, this shouldn't surprise me. The is another thing being hoarded in the US -- guns and ammo.

Ammo.com (yes you can buy ammunition online here) says their transactions are up 220-percent, and revenues are up 309-percent. The government says applications for background checks (needed to buy guns from a licensed dealer) are up 73-percent.

And, Texas did me proud. We lead the nation! Way to live down to that stereotype, Texas.

I guess poor people don't have much of a choice there, why else would anyone eat a bat?
I frequently think the same thing about oysters! :)

Also, you really have your priorities right. I love your comment about helping less fortunate folks who can't afford the premium shopping service. That's wonderful of you to do.

Kroger was packed today, like a busy Saturday. Still no TP, but otherwise well-stocked. In the midst of a lot of local news of people helping, I have to add that I went to get a bottle of Tylenol and found that all of the boxes had been opened, and I checked four bottles and, yep, some knob had punctured all the safety seals.

Didn't make it to the vet, but I will tomorrow.

A local restaurant has a creative solution to some of the shortages we're experiencing. An article in the Macomb Daily explains:

In the wake of COVID-19, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ordered all bars and restaurants to delivery or carry-out only. Some businesses have been forced to get creative in order to maintain business, like Terry's Terrace in Harrison Township.
A post made Tuesday, March 17, read, "Free roll of toilet paper with to go orders, while supplies last!"
Shelly Govert said the store still had around 200 rolls to give away, for anyone who ordered to-go from the restaurant.
Terry's Terrace is located at 36470 Jefferson Avenue in Harrison Township. They can be contacted at (586)463-2671, at TerrysTime.com, or via facebook.com/terrysterracepub.

Terry's Terrace is very good, if a bit pricey, but that roll of toilet paper with each order makes it worth a visit.

We have a place around here doing the same thing. Good marketing spreads fast! :)

Its come as a surprise to me as I'm usually good at dealing with stress and problems, but this situation has hit me hard. I'm completely upset and finding it hard to relax. I wake up in the night to go to the loo and then can't get back to sleep, so for three days now I've survived on approx. 4 hours sleep a night.

I think its because I can normally analyse a problem and work out what to do, however difficult. Then I adjust and cope. Right now that is not happening. I simply feel that I'm 'out of control' (which of course is true). Cooking is usually my number one de-stress activity. But to be honest, I don't really feel like cooking.

Any tips for relaxation would be appreciated!

Our laws have just changed due to 50 killed by one gunman in mosque attacks a year ago. Government (IMHO) are weak liberal limp wristed socialists, put a buyback for guns. It's ridiculous as there is an underground of crims that don't operate like that. I used to hunt 30 years ago deer etc, but could never kill an animal now. Grandkids would kill me,lol.
I'm aware of the strength of the nra in your country.and your right to carry guns.

Sorry to hear that, I know it's a big problem, because all the coronavirus sites I've seen include a "how to deal" section. I'll peruse a couple of those and see if anything sounds helpful and pass it on.

Me, as funny as it sounds, I deal with it by largely ignoring it and staying in a routine. That doesn't me I'm running around shaking hands and kissing people; I'm taking the precautions the govt and health officials are outlining, but I'm just not thinking about it.

Our state is updating the state website once daily. I think that's a great idea, because it keeps me from obsessing over the latest updates. I know to check the website every day at 3PM, note the numbers, read the daily update, and then move on mentally, because if I check it again at 5PM, then 9PM, then 7AM the next morning, it's going to be the same. I check national headlines once a day as well, at around 11AM.

One thing I'm very good at is compartmentalizing. I can put all the virus stuff in a little virus box in my brain, and then use the rest of my brain for other things. I can honestly say that for large parts of the day, I more or less forget there's a pandemic going on. When I'm cooking, I'm not thinking virus. When I'm watching TV, I'm not thinking virus.

I think sticking to a routine as much as possible is helpful. I'm working from home full time now, but I work from home so much already, it doesn't feel much different. I go into town less, but I still go in when I need to. I feed the dog, do the laundry on Thursdays (arghhh!), just as usual.

Relaxing...I love to watch TV, so I could do that 15 hours a day and be happy, but I don't. I play music (meaning on an instrument) every single day. That helps a lot. I was cleaning up some stuff and found a mandolin my mom bought when I was a teen - I'm cleaning that up and am really looking forward to fooling around on it in the next few days. When I found that, I sure wasn't thinking about the virus. :)

The most stress in my life has centered around two unexpected job losses, my wife's stroke, and most recently, my wife's heart attack. In each case, I just put everything in its own little box and dealt with things individually.

With the job losses, I designated a couple of hours each day to job hunting, and I gave my wife 30 minutes when she got home to ask any questions about prospects - outside of those times, no thinking/talking about being unemployed.

With her stroke, she was in the hospital for nearly a month, 45 minutes away, and I had to get up, feed the dog, rush over, come back at lunch to let the dog out and deal with any usual issues (mail, etc), then rush back, then rush back home to feed the dog in the evening, then rush back for the last couple of hours with her before going back home for the night.

When I wasn't at the hospital, as weird as it may sound, I wasn't thinking about my wife. I was feeding the dog, paying the bills, mowing the grass, vacuuming the floors. When I was at the hospital, I was focused on the wife. Didn't care about the laundry or dishes then. :)

Compartmentalize!

Any stress, I say to myself, what's the worst that can happen? It's normally not a lot, so I relax and forget. This toilet paper thing is here now as well, and pasta. But our local shops are as normal so I guess it's where you live here. My daughter asked me last night, how long we could live with frozen foods in the garage. I replied honestly about a few months.
Hope you chill out, maybe self medicate, lol. Keep safe morning glory
