How is the corona virus affecting you?

I rare drink, may be a glass of vino, a Limoncello here or there. Now I am sat in kitchen drinking Grappa at not midday!! I feel no use to him. I dislike Grappa, is mans drink but I afraid. Ray is 64 I live with him more time than home. Mio Dio why you do this? We go church every Sunday, Ray speak the words of grace every meals. WHY you punish? We honest kind and true why you do this?
I now have placed Ray in the bed again, he say he feel very weak! I call 111 again and no help. I loos all Inglese I have I scream at them nothing. Then I wait for interpreter to come and she because I Napulitano she can not understand??? I speak as machine gun I know this, I am in panic for Ray she no Italian she no understand!!! I use words nasty, I say please help me my husband ill. She speak school Italian, I say I Napulitano my saying different, she thought me was eastern European!!! She give in!!! I so afraid now.
It seem now Ray and I are alone, so is the way. He prepared give his for life his country, he leave 15 year ago only. they give him place in recruitment offices. All I say to these is Vaffanculo. Please forgive curse. I sad afraid and cry my big man is as child. He get worse I think I need ambulance.

I know this is difficult for you but I really think you need to stop the panicking. It is very unlikely indeed that Ray will need to be in hospital, even if he has the virus. And you cannot be certain that he has. The vast majority of people will recover with no problem at all. It is those with underlying health issues and the elderly who are suffering. Let him rest and recover from whatever he has. There isn't a need to call an ambulance unless he has severe breathing difficulties.

I did not explain this clearly enough?

I am pretty sure Mountain Cat probably didn't read see your response. Not everyone reads all posts here (I do but I'm probably unusual!). Its most likely she is referring to the sexist use of the word 'girl' when referring to grown women. At least, I think that is what she meant. I am sure she didn't know your step-son is disabled and has a much lower mental age than 20.

OK thanks for saying this for me 🙂 I always read everything, I guess I am a little strange 🙃

It also could mean that she feels a 20 year old IS a girl or boy. I know with more experience now that I truly was at that age (even being fortunate to have no developmental disabilities), even though I hated having an older person refer to me as a girl. And, I'll admit that I refer to a person in their early to mid 20s as a girl or boy when talking about them at times, though I generally do try to rearrange my thinking to young man or young woman.

Here in the UK it is all rather strange as we aren't following suit with European countries and imposing lock down nor closing restaurants. On the face of it life carries on as normal (aside from panic buying). There is going to be an announcement later today regarding 'self distancing' & large crowds. The scientific advisors here are taking a slightly different approach.

The long term & short term effects on the economy are very disturbing. Lots of small businesses are likely to fold quite quickly.

The thing I find repellent here is this idea of "herd immunity." This almost seems to be encouraging people to catch the filthy thing, not to mention sacrificing people most at risk. As one of my friends put it, "Oldies - take one for the team! You're enough of a burden on the NHS, anyway, so we really don't care if you keel over."

On a slightly more lighthearted note, there is a shop in our local high street which is rather ostentatiously displaying packets of pasta and toilet rolls in the window. It's an independent store that sells mostly home items and has a small selection of food. We usually buy our soap, toothpaste, bog roll and cleaning things there.

Just as I was no longer a girl when I turned 20... Just a note...
I 18 when I meet Ray my husband for 41 years; a year later we marry, he took me from girl to woman eight month later I gave birth to Luca. (Do the math)
The young man spoken off is having issues I pray your bambini not have! The person referred is an mental age 12 no he fault. So excuse can we stop making words for things we do not understand? Also because we no understand then may we try to? Maybe Simpatia!!

The official government line isn't about 'herd immunity' although that idea has been bandied about. It seems that what is being advised is a staggered slower approach, so rather than mass lock down, older people & those at risk are protected first to allow the heath service to build up and stagger resources. It also seems that nearly all of us will eventually get the virus, with degrees of severity. Its just a question of when.

I'm not sure the government has an "official" line. They were certainly using the herd immunity concept, although "Tigger" Hancock tried to distance himself from it over the weekend.

You may be right. Its hard to know really. I can't find any evidence of anyone in government actually saying that herd immunity was the concept behind the policy, although it was certainly an assumption made by the press.
