How quickly do you use eggs?

I made the mistake of letting the eggs stay too long in the fridge. When I wanted to make a cake, I couldn't use them!! They became too hard & they all wouldn't come out of the shells! Only buy a dozen at a time, unless you're making dinner or things that require lots of eggs!!

They must have been exceptionally old eggs. I have eggs in my fridge I know the very day they were lain almost 2 months ago and they are still good and fresh to eat. In fact 3 or 4 will be part of this evenings meal.

I think that they definitely were. I'll never keep them that long again!!
