MSG: is it a gourmet seasoning?

That’s the one I have. I use Maggi very often. I love it in salad dressing, steak dipping sauce, sometimes in stir fry if I run out of soy sauce, eggs, burgers, steak, mushrooms, etc.

That's the one I keep next to the stove that I brought from Las Vegas. I didn't know if I could get that in GA so I also have an 800ml bottle in the pantry...

I don’t buy the small bottles. I used buy the large bottle from a Chinese restaurant. I’ve found it in Asian grocery stores and of all places a Swiss Pork Store. I went to get real bone-in smoked pork chops (not those wanna be vacuum packed ones) and I spotted the large bottle. Also found my Hungarian paprika there. Need to make a run to that store soon. If I can’t find it locally Amazon has it.

How I love the internet!
According to Medical News Today, table salt has about 40% sodium, whereas MSG has around 12%.
My theory, which I formulated about 5 minutes ago, is that MSG has a bad rap only because of a medical team composed of 1 Australian, 1 Englishman and 1 New Zealander. They came to the conclusion that MSG has too much gluten, mate.

That sounds about right as my research (checking on Google  ) indicated that MSG has around 1 third of the sodium found in salt. I've been busy this weekend so not had a chance to try any MSG yet...

Mono Sodium Glutamate is a flavour enhancer that can be found in a variety of foods including canned soups, frozen meals, processed meats, hotdogs, bacon, pepperoni, crisps (AKA potato chips), crackers, noodle seasoning packets, soy sauce, salad dressings, BBQ sauce, ketchup.

What have all these things got in common: Tomatoes, parmesan cheese, Roquefort cheese, cheddar cheese, scallops, peas, onions, cabbage, spinach and broccoli?

They all contain Glutamate!

Isn't it odd though, that in this hot weather we're currently having in the UK, a large proportion of us are grilling meat on the BBQ with lashings of BBQ sauce all served alongside a salad with tomatoes in it with cheese on our burgers and onions on our hotdogs - MSG all in the mix but very few people (if any) complain of MSG causing them a headache...

In the UK you won't find many of these products have added MSG. Noodle seasoning will often include it. In the UK, ketchup doesn't and neither do most canned soups of potato crisps. Its simply not used very much in the UK. Certainly, the ready meals I see, don't contain it.

Correct! But this is a forum with members from all around the world which is why I mentioned them. Still no excuse to only blame Chinese Food for causing made up problems that never existed.

I promise you, I'm not making it up. Also, I didn't get a headache, I broke out in a rash and had shortness of breath. Like I wrote in my earlier post, small amounts do not bother me.
