• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

Plans for today (2026)

I did it, I went to the beach and swam twice. It’s a bit cooler and not enough sun. I also did walk the beach.
I talked to some Australians that were leaving, we took their place.
I’m very surprised they flew 10 hours to Hawaii. But every year I meet quite a few Australians.

that's not really considered much in Australia. You have to fly for something like just over 3.25 hrs hrs just to get to NZ from the East coast of Australia. Melbourne to Perth or Sydney to Perth is around a 5-hour to 5.5-hr flight, same for Melbourne/Sydney to Darwin (NW Aus) and anything from 6 hours for Tasmania to Perth or Darwin.
Sydney to Singapore is 8.5hrs, so abroad is a long way unless you go to new Zealand/

Today, I plan to have a lite lunch because we’re booked to go eat very early dinner, even earlier than an Early Bird dinner. I want to be there around 4PM to hear the band.
This restaurant is the same as Duke’s Waikiki but it has a view and they do serve Prime Rib, a dish I rarely cook and get it right at home for my husband, so this is his chance to order it.
I was planning togo to the beach early in the morning for a swim, but I changed my mind. Still too windy.

Reminds me of the time I went to an international conference in Vancouver. All of the attendees from Europe were absolutely astonished that I had gotten on a plane, flown for 5 hours, and was still in the same country!

For some reason I didn’t feel like going to the beach the morning, I was right, we went out to get an early lunch, it’s raining.

Well my plan failed and I had to replan. It turns out my Prime Rib is not served after 3PM, I have to be there for brunch. So I did manage to rebook. Crazy, this business of combining 2 to 3 things at once is not successful.
