Baked beans only started appearing in English breakfasts in the 1960's following a huge advertising campaign by Heinz. They became a cheap filler, much like hash browns, neither really belonging in a traditional English breakfast. Therefore, ironically, the weird stuff we now add to our breakfast we got from Americans . This has minded me to research a history of the English breakfast. Internet searches come up with nothing of any substance. A worthy lockdown project.

I've got a lovely vintage book (1923) called, Breakfast Dishes and Savouries. Its full of wonderful savoury recipes - the sorts of things served for breakfast and after dinner in posh houses.

My breakfast - two slices of leftover roast pork shoulder (cooked with pumpkin, onion and a couple Mexican peppers), plus a home-grown egg. Pan fried, no oil needed to add. A hint of ground pepper.

Gingerbread pancakes and sausage patties:

I cheated a bit in that I noticed a box of pancake mix in the back of the cupboard that I didn't know I had, so I doctored it up a bit with ground ginger, cinnamon, molasses, and vanilla and...POOF!...gingerbread pancakes.

Made a batch of Bacon Spam fried rice (with bacon, and bacon spam, look for it with the other spam if you're into spam). And a to-go container for my fiance with a little bottle of the "drizzle": Soy, Sugar, Mirin, Ginger, Garlic, Lime juice.
