Show Us Your Apron

I agree - too chintzy.

Note: I looked up 'chintzy' it seems it might mean something a little different in America. All I meant was 'too much busy print'.

Yes, it does mean something different here. "It looks chintzy" would be like "it looks cheap" in the US. Or, it's not well made.

Did you mean chintz as in the fabric then Morning Glory ?
Yes, very much like a flowery chintz.
What I wasn't fond of was the "halter" style over the neck thingy with the metal D rings.
I felt like I was being choked!

I had an apron awhiles back that was Japanese-Inspired, loved it, but could never find it here on the continental US.

I've never needed an apron while cooking. What I do need to do in some cases where my hands get involved, is to remember to let the tap water trickle or have a bowl of rinse water at the ready, so that I can clean off my hands without having to get gunk all over the tap handles or anything else.
That's me too!
I saw a TV chef on PBS long ago, had a bowl of hot soapy water in her Studio kitchen sink at the ready.
I've adapted that and when I get started with pretty much any food prep, I do the same.

I'll put a pic up later when cooking, I have 2 I wear.
But I rarely use them if flour is involved I do. I'm messy.

Russ, I'm so dang messy with flour, sugar, cornmeal and cornstarch!
My Mother used to get so mad at me when I'd go into her kitchen when I was a kid,
I got that stuff all over the place!
It's taken me years to get over that little voice in the back of my head, SCREECHING
when ever I'd go into the kitchen, STOP MAKING SUCH A MESS! (she never cleaned it up, I did)
MAN!
That's part of the fun of it!
You'll hear loads of "oops-y" when flour and I are involved!
This is why somebody invented the DustBuster, Brooms and Mops!

I make a mess in the kitchen too, the wife cleans up though.

I also get very irritated with myself when I make a mess. I try to be careful, but still manage to drip this here and that there.

Flour's the worst. Just opening the container somehow managed to get flour all over.

Yeah, flour is evil. Every time I use flour for anything, it gets all over the kitchen, no matter how careful I am.

Ya know, I use to get upset with myself and it was just my Mother in my head...
NO MORE!
Now, it's like a game to see how much or how little flour I get past my body and on the floor, counter ...
WHO CARES! It's my kitchen and I can have as much fun as I want, with in reason of course, I mean I still have to clean it up :p:

I watch cooking shows like most guys watch football:

"That's how ya pour soup in a blender?!?! You're splashin' it everywhere!! C'MON, MAN!!!"

It doesn't mean that here when used in a pejorative sense - it means a fussy and old fashioned look. A typical chintzy interior:

Of course, like anything else, chintz has to some extent come back in fashion.

One thing I have noticed though (and this is a ridiculously sweeping statement) is that in the UK, interiors (kitchens are a good example) tend towards the sleek modern look compared to American interiors, many of which to my eye look very 'dated'. Its all a matter of taste I suppose - or is it? I think there may be more to it than that.

That sleek, contemporary look in a kitchen is not that popular, here. Granted, stainless steel appliances are extremely popular, but not things like white formica cabinets. The photo I posted of my parent's large kitchen showed white cabinets, but they still use wood solids for doors and Drawers.

As for tastes, it is a combination of that and matching the character of the overall home. Contemporary kitchen will most likely be found in contemporary homes. Putting a contemporary kitchen in a traditional styled home is not done much, here. A sleek contemporary kitchen would not work in my home, because the kitchen is open to the living room, which is NOT contemporary. Standing in one room or the other would be jolting to the eye.

As for aprons, I don't have one, but would probably go with a simple, restaurant supply store apron in a dark color, or black. My kitchen is traditional, but masculine. My apron would be that way, too.
