I went to a Portuguese bakery, close to where I left the car with the mechanic, and ordered pasteis de nata - their signature custard tarts.
ALAS! I was too early. They wouldn't be ready for another 30 minutes, so I ended up with a mille feuille, covered in some yummy caramelised cream. Not what I wanted, but it filled the gap.

Rare weekday cooked breakfast for use, omelette using more of the leftover skirt steak from night before last:

I suppose technically, that’s half an omelette and it broke a little on the folding, but it was really good…sort of like a cheesesteak omelette.
I'm very open minded about fod but meat in an omelet is odd to me. Fish maybe but meat (other than maybe a bit of mild ham) is unusual. Or is it...?

Omelets for me usually have meat, veggies, and of course cheese. I do love seafood omelets, I made one just yesterday. An omelet can be a catchall for leftovers and that often works out nicely. Spinach, bacon, peppers, mushroom, onion with goat cheese and cheddar is a good combo. I've done cheesesteak omelets similar to what TastyReuben did. Yummy.

An omelet without meat would be very odd to me. Something eaten with a specific goal in mind. Like maybe a vegetarian omelet (if they can eat eggs).

But if you're not comfortable with meat IN the omelet, you can always serve it on top ;)

Italian omelet.

Not unusual here at all. Omelettes are probably considered more customizable than pizza or baked potatoes here. Just about anything can go in an omelette.

Two of my favorites are a Tex-Mex omelette, filled with chili (con carne), jalapeños, onions, and cheese, and and Italian/pizza omelette, filled with pepperoni/salami, Italian sausage, pizza sauce, peppers, and mozzarella cheese.

I expect its just me with my European view of omelettes. I don't like the idea of the omelette as 'catch all'. I learned about omelettes as French gourmet treat: delicate, subtle and light.

Of course, there is also the Spanish tortilla, which is much more substantial.

I figure if it can go in a quiche it's fine in an omelet. But I don't care for tomato products with eggs, and mozz and pepperoni don't seen right either, so no pizza omelet for me.
