fried chicken . . . .

tripped across an article that presumed to have found: "the best gas station fired chicken"
okay - the 'gas station' label is a bit more like "rest stop" / in marketing geek "travel center"
- places with some-to-humongous other offerings...
Love's / Flying J / Buc-ees / etc

their top pick was Royal Farms.
which is actually more of a gas station ala convenience store than a 'travel center'
not much different that ye olde 7-11 . . .
it's also seriously more limited in scope - to the mid-Atlantic states.

well, having been served up some of the worst chicken garbage _ever_ from the local KFC . . .
opted to give it a try.

bottom line: their fried chicken really is excellent!
tasty, juicy . . they tout "fresh, never frozen" and I think that really does enhance the texture as freezing always does seem to make chicken tougher.

Well I'm not in the US so unlikely to get to try the Royal Farms chicken but a quick Google shows that it looks good.

Stations and convenience stores can all serve up decent fried chicken when they want to. My favourites are all in Japan; all of the convenience store chains (7-11, Family Mart, Lawson) compete on this and they're all terrific and I've tried them all. The Famichiki is the winner though:
