So, it seems that cabbage is having its moment.

This year has been dubbed the year of the cabbage and articles such as adding cabbage to pasta dishes (https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2026/01/11/cabbage-pasta-sausage/ ) is another food trend.

I know TastyReuben will be happy about it.

Have you added cabbage to a pasta dish? It seems odd to me, but i know we're straight to use more cabbage at home here as well, so why not to pasta dishes? I'm curious though as to what it adds to the dish. Can anyone tell me?

*Affordability *? It's a thing ATM.

Having said that, it's also probably a veg add-in to what's essentially a meat n carbs dish. Good way to up the meat to veg ratio. Old trick to get kids to eat more veg by hiding it in bolognaise sauce for e.g. 😁

Cabbage in pasta is not unusual here in my area at all. We have a lot of German/Central Europe influence, so that means…haluski:

We never called it haluski growing up, just “cabbage and noodles,” but we ate this weekly, if not more, and it’s still on the menu of old-school diners and cafeterias here, and German/Polish/Hungarian/Czech restaurants.
 
Cabbage and noodles is one of our all-time top comfort food dishes here. It’s filling, it tastes delicious, it can be a side or a main.

It’s one of those things that, when you come inside to a boiling hot kitchen on a super-cold day, and you get that immediate smell of cabbage and onions frying, you just feel like, “Yep, I’m home. This is home right here. I’m where I should be. Everything’s right. I’m home.”
 
Dammit, now I’m wiping tears from my eyes, thinking about sitting in my grandmom’s kitchen when I was 7 or 8, waiting on a big plate of cabbage and noodles!

I can smell it, I can feel the heat of the too-hot wood stove, I can see the steam, I can hear her shuffling in her slippers, muttering to herself, cooking everything, while I sit at a chipped Formica table piled high with fruit pies, cakes, cookies, and candies/chocolates (she had a sweet tooth…a whole mouth of sweet teeth), and Frisky, her little Pom dog, running back and forth, from the carpeted living room to the linoleum-floored kitchen, little toenails chattering away, hoping for some cabbage and noodles as well.

It would be great to get some recipes please. It's never even been a concept for our family, so I've never heard of it. Cabbage is very litte used in Pete household. I love savoy cabbage but it hates me sadly.

Other cabbage has only really featured in 1 soup. It's never been something I've used.
