I’m struggling to think of anything just because I still make the things I like even from decades ago and have forgotten the stuff I didn’t like.

Maybe one that will make a lot of people want to vom, Pilchards on toast.
Very hot toast, loads of butter and tinned pilchards in tomato mashed up and spread onto the toast.
I always loved the contrast of the cold pilchards and the hot toast.
🤤 I buy those headless and dried 400 g at a time!!! Love the canned ones too!!!

Tinned pilchards used to be in every supermarket here. Now they’ve fallen out of favour and I can’t get them in any of the supermarkets. Sardines yes, lots of sardines but the big fat tinned pilchards no 😔

My dad used to buy tins of pilchards, or sardines, and mash them up with malt vinegar. Sandwich time.
Now there's something I could enjoy from my youth.
Mostly though, I remember dishes from school and shiver uncontrollably. Fish (cooked for about 3 hours) in white sauce. Lancashire hot pot (I only ate the potatoes).Flummery (something between a floppy blancmange and an over-set jelly). Suet pudding. Spotted dick; so heavy, you could use it as a medicine ball.
Ahhh - here's one I used to enjoy: Sausage Lyonnaise - basically, British bangers drowned in an onion and gravy sauce. Yep, I'd revive that one.
Well I’ve never had them with malt vinegar and I can’t quite imagine it either but joy of joys recently a malt vinegar has been listed as gluten free (good on Sarsons!) so I had malt vinegar for the first time in decades last week.
Forbidden fruit always taste like bliss! I think I’m going to try out the malt vinegar fish on toast combo, thanks!

I have noticed of late that quite a few things that have been off the cards for many decades are now suddenly available to me again. It doesn’t appear the ingredients have changed in the majority of cases, more that they’re bothering to test and declare it GF which is a source of great joy for me 😊

I read somewhere they were overfished so fishing was restricted. Need to check that.
