Anybody remember them - again I suppose you have to be of and age [dip - ie the leavings in the pan from frying tomatoes, not ketchup]
Can't say I do - it could be a regional term. So is there something in the sandwich?
I don't think that they are 'made'. I think they are sarnies dipped in the pan juices from fried tomatoes - but I'm not sure!

Yep - that's it. Just 1 slice of bread 'dipped' in the pan then another slice on top. Sometimes if you were very lucky the pan had been used for frying bacon and you got a flavour of that too. They were just a very [very] cheap 'filler up' obtainable from [fairly basic] café’s way back in the 50s and 60s. Useful back then if your wage packet had run out [or even pocket money] and it was lunch time.

Even worse in my house - only given half a slice of bread to dip..... Never seen them in a café, but then we always went to Joe Lyons's
