Weekly Menu (2025)

Apparently both boys are coming home tomorrow for a long ‘weekend’ Thursday to Monday lunch time so that’ll be all my hard days of recuperating down the swannee.

I’m planning a sandwich marathon for three days.
- The toasted Mumbai sandwich I’ve mentioned elsewhere.
- A mash up of a french dip sandwich crossed with poutine. Lol I’ve just realised how appropriate that is French-Canadian 😂
- Quesadillas which will be prawn and red peppers 🫑

I’m thinking I’ll put the Teppanyaki griddle on the table for the quesadillas and they can fill and cook them themselves. All sold under the guise of fun rather than, you lot are wearing me out 😝
Both of my kids will be here next week, I’m also planning a corn enchiladas with my leftover pork. I’m thinking of making green sauce with my cilantros, 2 bought 2 bunches for 20c each. But I have no more peppers.

Strange isn’t it that these sorts of things are so familiar now I don’t even give a thought to having trotted round four countries for my sandwich choices. When I think back to the 80’s all of this would have been quite novel.
Sharing another cultures food is just marvellous isn’t it?!

One of mine does not like corn which I find most irritating!
He’ll eat baby corn and creamed corn but not the real deal.

One of the ost popular ways to eat at home over Christmas in the Netherlands is "gourmet".
Little non-stick skillets over a heat source on the table and you cook whatever you want from a variety of meats, veges etc

I don’t like corn products either, but I love fresh corn from my garden. Every year I will grow some.

They look nice and tall. Here is a photo of my garden with tall corn plants.

Nice 👍
My Dad used to grow corn on the cob. He loved it, he loved it so much we rarely got a look in 😂

Thank You, one year I had 80 corn from my previous garden, I didn’t know what to do with so many, I only eat them fresh.
I don’t like to spend a lot of time canning, freezing, none of that stuff because I don’t have fridge space.

I can think of one recipient that would gladly take them off your hands :whistling:
Just sayin’

Got the fresh pork on sale because I told the manager that I saw the weekly ad and it’s 99c. He told me he would give it to me but I have to purchase minimum $25, so I did buy 2 frozen Jumbo shrimp bags to get my pork. So Jumbo shrimp will be on the menu this week.
I bought sour cream for my enchiladas and it’s buy 2 Knudsen sour cream to get 99c each, so I also had to buy 2. It’s like a game every week, what to with the extra purchase, haha. Maybe I can substitute it for dairy cream, one of my potato recipes calling for heavy cream of some sort, I need to look at the recipe again.

Freezing doesn't work for me either with the space issue. This year I got a pressure canner and that does work. I can have my tomatoes all year long now. 👍 Used to be when the season was over that was it until I harvested again.

I tried to look earlier and it said “ACCESS DENIED”
Oddly enough a click this time with no changes to my settings took me straight to it.

Blimey I had no idea! So teppanyaki is also a traditional cosy Dutch thing!

I struggle a little with Teppanyaki because my lot are big eaters and they can grow impatient waiting for individual pieces of this n that to cook. So I now provide a starter or accompaniment they can eat immediately. That seems to work ok.
I’m interested to see how the Quesadillas work out.
