• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

Weekly menu (2026)

I'm struggling today to come up with a menu for DH's last week and a half of solid soft foods!!!
In no particular order, just ideas for meals:
Grilled Salmon Fillets + Carrots cooked soft
Cheese Raviolis (they're frozen from NYC as DH's B-day gift)
Chicken Pot Pie
Trader Joe's frozen Meat Lasagna
Chicken + Gravy + Noodles + Peas cooked soft
Chicken Stir Fry over Lo Mein
Trader Joe's Chicken Garlic Herb Sausages + Baked Potato + Green beans that will be cooked soft

And some "soft" breakfast ideas:
Soft Brioche Bun + American-style soft scrambled Eggs + Trader Joe's Chicken Breakfast Sausage Breakfast Sandwich
Homemade Buttermilk Waffles (which I have already in the freezer)
Canned Lychee + soft White Bread Soldiers (lightly toasted and dry please) + Hard Boiled Egg + Smoked Salmon (I make my own)
and any other soft fresh fruits I can find in the market.

I gotta stay ahead of the game!

Looks like a good plan! 👍

Congee?

Ok I went shopping with my husband.
He found some steaks that look good and reasonable price so that for
Friday - steak and potatoes, with a garden salad and beet roots, maybe boiled.
Saturday - lamb shank slow cooked in red wine sauce, and tomato sauce, and onions, maybe some carrots if I can find any.
Sunday - grilled or baked chicken thighs, I found 4 large pieces for reasonable prices, bitter melon soup, just a small one for my daughter and I, this is our medicine, some version of japchae (cold yam noodles) with my mushrooms, I got 2 different kinds
Monday - chili
Tuesday - pork chili verde, I bought a little bit of everything

Making rhubarb apple pie, this is Martha Stewart’s recipe so I have to be careful, her recipes never turned out well for me.
My menu is now changed, I didn’t ask my husband to buy ground Bison meat, last time I was there they raised the price, much cheaper to buy individual packets from Sprouts.
So I decided to make chili with pork cube, and kidney beans. I will top it with mash potatoes and a bit cheese for flavor. I did buy russet potatoes for 15c a pound, the cheapest price in the last few months.

Since MrsT is cooking, and she’s going grocery shopping tomorrow, she’s insisted on some sort of rough menu.

Chicken thighs, roasted cabbage, and brown rice
Spaghetti bolognese
Tomato soup and grilled cheese
Pork and sauerkraut
Corn and potato soup/chowder
