What’s going on in your garden (2026)?

I want one :)

SatNavSaysStraightOn : what glue are you using? I got lots and lots of ants as well

It is not an insecticide or anything like that, just exceptionally sticky. Trust me, I keep finding it on me.... I had to shower afterwards, after using oil to remove the sticky stuff and then shower with lots of soap to get the emulision off.... it works though. It is a cross between an adhesive and glue that does not cure. Hope that makes sense. Currently it is thinning itself nicely, running down the tree and spreading itself out in the heat! lol.

It depends on the variety. But I think for people who are not fig aficionados, they pick figs too early, I used to be one, they need to be more ripe.
The inside will ooze out of honey like this.

The birds usually eat them long before that stage.

Also mine are not a purple variety. I have no idea what variety they are, they are old trees. We had to give them a good cut back last winter, so I didn't expect to get anything from them this year. Usually mine do not get too ripe unless I am up before the birds are. They have a very sweet tooth. So I often just make fig molasses from them and keep it for winter to put over porridge.

Wow, ours don't get that big!
the right hand one is the more common size for my tree. The left hand one is large for us. Fig molasses is what I usually make. Mine tend to be pink insize, and do not get more colour than you see on the skin now. the magpies in particular love them.

I love them too! I'll eat figs until a gastronomic disturbance occurs...

Barriehie, I have 30 fig trees, need I say more, haha. But seriously I grow them for fun, I eat some, but nobody in my family eats figs. I need to educate them. Figs and prosciutto.

I did get to do some gardening today, fertilizing my blueberries, gave my longan tree some bone meal, I saw someone do that on her youtube, keep my fingers crossed on this. Otherwise it might be in chopping block.
Here is what I harvested today, my Algerian Fremont mandarins, there are signs, multiple signs that the birds are poking into the mandarins and eat them.
My husband had one and he’s said it’s smell fresh and aromatic.

I've got two that are massive and produce way more than I can process, so far...

I need to step up and make molasses like SatNavSaysStraightOn...

I espalier mine around my concrete wall, so they are not huge tree, i get about 10-50 fruit per tree, but that’s all I want.
