• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

What did you cook or eat today? (January 2026)

Schnitzels (Jägerschnitzels to be precise as they have the mushroom gravy):

With DH on a "soft solid food" diet for three weeks, I've been dreaming up small plates from him and keeping them in the `fridge at the ready for when he is hungry (he hasn't had much of an appetite, lost 4 pounds already).

Turkey and Swiss Roll Ups. There's two more plates in the `fridge wrapped in plastic.

Several bowls of already cooked different kinds of Pasta that can be re-heated and served... Rigs & Anchovies ☝️
I also put a double serving of Cheese Tortellini in the `fridge for tomorrow.

... did you mean to say HIM?
At first, I wasn't letting DH have his beloved `Maters ... no seeds!
But really, how much seeds are there in a fresh tomato?
This mornings brunch was Vienna sausages, scrambled eggs, diced small `maters and soft white bread cut into "soldiers" so that he has to do the least chewing.
The chewing action could blow this whole deal out of the water!! We want to ensure success I keep telling DH.

No, home jarred, like I canned them, in jars, this last season.

Our potatoes are quite "soft" certain times of the year (during the rainy season).
I soak them in water with salt to firm them up. Then dry as good as possible before frying (double fry)
I made sure to do a "bend test" after they rested in the fridge. They were firm and had a good snap to them.
