What did you cook or eat today: July 2025

What is a pie shield?
I'm gonna guess something that covers the outer edges of the crust to keep it from burning. I've always just used foil.
Yes, it's several curved metal pieces or even 1 whole piece that you place on the edges of a pie after the pastry has cooked and is starting to get too brown on long cooking pies. I've found that by the time the pastry is getting too brown, the top of the pie is getting too brown as well, so I just lightly lay a piece of foil over the whole pie.

Ohh I looked and they make silicone shields now.

Lunch was a smoked turkey breast on poppy egg twist roll with mayo and lettuce sandwich. That's maybe an 1/8lb. (4 thin slices) sliced thin deli “drape” looks like much more.
And snack olives.

Then I'd have to wash the grater too...View attachment 131674
I have one of those spin graters I keep in a ziplock in the refrigerator, but that's for Italian cheeses. But don't you have a dishwasher too? I buy shredded cheddar, but if I didn't have any on hand I'd use one of my other graters and put it in the dishwasher after.
