What did you cook or eat today (March 2026)

Made Swedish meatballs, cream sauce, mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli. Cranberry sauce on the side.

Just spent a week in China. I have about 1 million photos of food. I wish you could see them all, but here are just a few (I'll break them up over a few days so as not to inundate you with too many!)

Shanghai is famous for the scallion pancakes. You find them everywhere as street food.

Y'all know I'm a sucker for meat on skewers. Here's one of many I ate - a lamb one, dusted with some kind of cumin mix and plenty of chili:

Pork and beef mooncakes:

Inside my pork one. Pastry is a little flaky, but still moist.

Another Shanghainese speciality - crab roe noodles. After this shot I mixed it all up.

That's so awesome! I'm slightly jealous

Some more China food, this time with a fast food theme:

McD's China has something called the Angus Max which is very similar to the Angus Thickburger we get in Singapore. It's more gourment than regular burgers with a thicker higher-quality Angus beef patty. The box has gold highlights beneath which you can just about see. It was good.

7-11 Fried chicken. I had one of those boneless thigh bits and tbf it was bloody nice for convenience store food.

Another previously unseen McD offering - sausage and beef burger. It has two little pork sausages inside and some nice piquant mustard. I liked it! The sausages were pretty ok - not the Frankfurter style but a bit better like a chipolata.

Can't remember where I got this. It could have been a Family Mart convenience store. Often when we've got back to our hotel rooms I will do a solo run to these kinds of nearby outlets to get a couple of tinnies of beer and some late night snacks so I think this was one of them. It was spicy and awesome.

Skewer thing my daughter chose then decided she didn't want. It was alright.

Now this was amazing; loads of succulent braised pork in a nice crunchy bun.

The one that got away. I really wanted to try it but both times we passed by the store it was either too early (breakfast menu) or too late (they'd run out!).
What's special about this picture? It's a hamburger being sold at KFC! I've never seen it before!
