What did you cook or eat today (November 2021)?

another employee walked up to the sandwich making area, reached in the meat bins with no gloves, made himself a sandwich and started eating it right there behind the counter.šŸ¤¢šŸ¤¢
That's why you always get the hot sandwiches. That time on the grill is crucial.

They're expensive, that is true, lunch today was $30, essentially for "fast food," but their schtick is that everything is fresh - fresh cut and fried fried, fresh-squeezed lemonade, etc.

I'll give them that there's a world of difference between their sandwiches and Subway, that's for sure.

my apologies, it wasn't a criticism. I'm certain everyone else will have read it the way you intended. I'm dyslexic and once my mind has read something the way it wants to read it, I often have to do a double check, that sanity check that says they didn't make sense, and have another attempt. I am actually a very slow reader. always have been. it doesn't help even taking it slowly because I just don't see my mistakes until I literally look one word at a time and try again. Hubby reads at twice my speed on his slow days!

(MG usually corrects my really bad posts for me to 'translate' into everybody else's version of English, not helped by my totally random predictive text that gets worse and worse until I fall out with it and reset the dictionary when I remember how to....)
I didn't take it as an offense, I don't have dyslexia but I get migraines and sinus headaches sometimes and my comprehension gets pretty poor (and my writing skills not much better). And I get terribly cranky as well (so I should probably avoid the forum at those times).

Turkey is coming along, I am slow roasting it covered. I will take off the foil later and bring the heat up to low broil to get the skin nice and crisp. I also bought myself a chef's torch recently that I haven't used yet...I imagine the oven will work just fine but I have that to try out just in case.

Absolutely a favourite fish of mine. Its very 'meaty' and works well in all sorts of dishes. I use it in curry sometimes. One thing to know is that there is a tough membrane which has to be removed. A good fishmonger will have done that but I have on occasion had to do it myself.

Quite possibly the ugliest fish in the ocean.

I would like to try it, sometime... if I can find it. I've never seen it in any grocery stores in Texas. I'd probably have to go to a fishmonger.

Yeah, their sammies look good and so did the fries. those prices are cheap by Canadian standards.

Another place I don't think I've posted before:

This is our favorite sandwich place, because everything is made fresh. The fries, for example, they don't even cut the potato until you've placed your order.

You do have to wait a little longer, and you do have to pay a little more, but it's worth it.
Another one of those places that they used to pay me to go eat. I haven't done one of those since early 2020 since they don't allow carryout evaluations and I am not quite ready to dine in a restaurant just yet.

I ordered it through Wild Fork Foods. They are opening one in Frisco (if it isn't already opened).

Growing up, we called it ā€œpoor Manā€™s Lobsterā€ which probably had something to do with the little pots of melted butter into which dipped pieces of the fish.

Still eat to this day it when it is available.

Once upon a time in Colonial America, lobster itself was poor man's food. They used to feed it to prisoners. Chef's ruined that, too.

Tried Penn Station for the first time a few weeks ago - agree its good! Also agree it is a little pricey. A 12 inch Italian and 9 inch Italian plus two drinks cost $27.00 which I though was a bit much. The topper of it all, just as they were finishing making up our sandwiches, another employee walked up to the sandwich making area, reached in the meat bins with no gloves, made himself a sandwich and started eating it right there behind the counter.šŸ¤¢šŸ¤¢

If I Had 't already paid, I would have walked out. Well maybe, I would have. Since the whole Covid lockdown / not locked down, I find myself a little more tolerant only because I think Covid has brought out the "crazy" in people and it's not worth the risk.
They would have been in such big trouble if an evaluator had been there to see that!

Yeah, those poor prisoners, how awful to have to eat lobster every day! They fed it to slaves, too.

I read a comment from a guy who worked at Red Lobster, and he said what is good to order, and what to completely avoid. On the avoid list was any salad. He said the salad station by the kitchen was accessed by the pretty much anyone, and often by hand, with no gloves or had washing. If they grabbed too much, they would put some back.

Picture someone filling your salad bowl by unwashed hand, no gloves.

Personally, Red Lobster is like Applebee's and Olive Garden -- another place I refuse to go to.

My youngest stepdaughter worked at a Red Lobster for 2 weeks as a server when she was 18. She said it was the nastiest, dirtiest kitchen she had ever seen. She refused to eat there even though the kitchen workers offered her free food.

I'd say Olive Garden is probably a lot cleaner, no telling about the kitchen but at least the visible restaurant areas (dining room, restroom, bar area). It's not my favorite place and I haven't been since my husband's grandmother died. We used to take her there for lunch, she loved it. Applebees? Food is awful.

Compared to Subway, they come out on the high end. A comparable (in quantity) meal as Subway would have been about $12.

I just like the fact that when I order fries, the fry station worker grabs an actual potato and runs it through the cutter, and then makes my fries. Nothing from a bag, and nothing that's sat under a heat lamp for 10 minutes.

I did have to laugh. Since they make everything fresh, it can take several minutes to get your food. MrsT went and sat down, but I stayed up by the counter, so I could carry it back when it came out.

I suppose it irritated one of the guys at the counter, because he rather sharply said, "You know, we will carry that out to you, Boss!"

Yeah, ok, no problem. I'll go sit down.

Several minutes later, I heard someone shouting my name. It was him, calling me up to the counter to collect my food.

Typos are so prevalent on the 'net, I don't even see them any more!

i just checked on Google Maps. The store is 5.5 miles from me.

I love Wild Fork Foods. They are based in S. Florida. I order seafood from them that is flash frozen and it arrives on dry ice. I have a yearly "free" delivery subscription so I order from them once a month, sometimes more. Their smoked peppered salmon is fantastic and the price is great! I also love their rack of lamb. I trim it and chop it into lamb "lollipops" and cook them for my husband. They made a lamb lover out of me. I am not crazy about their beef, but hey, you live in Texas, it's not hard to find fantastic beef at your local butcher, so don't bother. But you can get different kinds of seafood that aren't readily available in your neck of the woods.
