What did you cook or eat today? (October 2025)

My closeup of my sausage sammies fresh out of the oven. With lots of contrast and exposure ;)

Strictly speaking, this was Tuesday's dinner, not today's.
In a rush on Tuesday and it was almost 5pm before I got round to cooking anything. I'd bought a fennel bulb last week with the intention of using it in some pickles, but that never happened.
However, fennel, onion and tomato go really, really well together, so this quick pasta (I think it's linguine, not spaghetti) really hit the spot.

As we stepped out of the door for the short 2 min walk to the beach front and the best steak restaurant steak I've ever eaten ('Steakhaus Tropical') the door was slammed shut and Mr SSOAP didn't have the keys 🤨
So for lunch I'm currently sitting round the back of the house having a slice of air pie with a side of rusty padlock 😬

Mr SSOAP is walking to the local hardware store (who are hopefully not having a siesta, but they probably are) to try and find bolt cutters.
I suppose I should be grateful the ineptitude extended to not shutting the patio window so bolt cutters are all that's needed 😬

If the hot stone steak ever happens Ill update with a pic of the upgrade to the air pie 😆

Not the lunchtime view I was expecting 😆

As Mr SSOAP was within metres of the hardware shop the door was locked, the shutters down and the person scuttled away for his siesta at quite a speed!
Fortunately the Chinese folk who own the mini supermarket nearby are not at all integrated into Spanish culture so stay open all hours and sell all sorts of unusual things in a tiny space including a mallet and a large chisel next to the baguettes!
The Monkey Men engaged gorilla mode and a mere couple of taps later Mr Rusty Padlock was no longer standing between us and carne.

I had the smallest hot stone steak they offer, the others had over a pound of fillet each!

I also had a jacket potato which it the best jacket potato I’ve had in a very long time

Spanish hospitality here as usual was excellent, even a free glass of rather excellent bubbly at the end.
Imagine our irritation when we discovered we couldn’t add a tip to the bill and no-one brought any cash!
They don’t expect tips here at all, they consider they’re just doing their job but I’m not thrilled so we’ll wander back down to the seafront later for beach sunset and leave a tip.

I picked up an 8pc fried chicken at the store while getting my redskins.
It was so-so. They changed the breading. It was not as good as it usually is.
But it was still pressure fried chicken, so I managed to eat the usual five pieces with enough left over for some chicken salad, or maybe Cajun pasta.

Kinda bummed though. I might say something next time I go there.

Used to be a place in 'Vegas called Farm Basket and all they sold was fried chicken and turkey. I'd go by there on the way home and you could get 7 pieces of dark meat for $7.99 with a biscuit and a side. Miss that place!

Looks like they've changed...
