What did you cook or eat today (September 2025)?

For my lunch today I have random bits I had in the fridge at work!

I had fish n chips 🍟 lunch after I took isla and her crew. Makkas.
McD’s and I are having a little separation at the moment. I’m angry they’ve changed their daily deals in their app.

Used to be, I could get free fries with any purchase of $2 or more - a regular cheeseburger is $2.19 where I live, I always bring my own water, so I could have lunch for a sweet $3, with some of that rounded up and donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

They’ve ended that and replaced it with free fries for…wait for it…$15 or more - I’m never going to spend $15 at McD’s - and all the other daily deals are crap. Best I can do is half-off a McChicken, which with fries brings my total to $4.¢¢, rounded up to $5, and I’m not doing that.

It’s the principle of the thing!

Until they see reason and return my usual daily deal, we’re on the outs.

Do they have a rewards program on their app like BK does? We don't do McDonald's, other than for breakfast very rarely, but do get lunch from BK once in a whole and 99% of time get at least fries free.
 
Went to the butchers and got some garlic and herb marinated lamb steaks for lunch, no pic but a lovely fast lunch.
Have a joint of beef slow cooking on high for a Max’s sandwich shop recipe of Bánh Mí baguettes later on.

Took a step forward towards the instruction to “burn the veg, I mean really burn the veg” but I’m sure I’m still way off what he means. It’s gonna be baby steps on that one for me because I just can’t imagine burnt garlic having anything to offer other than nasty acridness.

Hopefully the actual sandwich will get me closer to trusting it’s the right thing to do!
 
Have a leg of lamb (well two actually cos the butcher offered a deal on two) that I’ll slow cook overnight, just the marinade to make up.
Finished the Ensaladilla de Marisco
It’s a mayo strongly flavoured with Thai fish sauce, lemon and a smidge of sugar that binds together diced sea bass, king prawns and shredded seafood sticks.

The seafood sticks break up easily with a hand mixer and surprisingly it’s their texture shredded that carries it all off.
I added the sea bass in after mixing in the mayo because it breaks easily and I didn’t want to lose the texture.

Bit of grated cured salted duck yolks to finish. Not great pics but had a lot on so it was a rush, still at least that won’t effect the flavour tomoz 😊
